Photo Credit: Burrard-Lucas PhotographyĪnother unique animal was seen in Kenya last year at the Laikipia Wilderness Camp- an elusive African black leopard, also known as a black panther. Piebald deer, however, are protected in fewer states, and this protection is often based on how much of the deer’s coat is white. ![]() It is illegal to kill albino deer, which lack all pigment and are completely white, in several states, including Illinois, Iowa, and parts of Montana, Tennessee, and Wisconsin. Piebaldism also makes deer susceptible to predation as they are easier to see with white coloring. It can also cause an array of possible deformities, including changes to skeletal alignment like short legs and curved spines. Piebaldism does not just affect coat coloration. That makes this characteristic very rare, affecting less than two percent of the white-tailed deer population, according to David Osborn, wildlife research coordinator at the University of Georgia Deer Research Facility. Piebaldism is a recessive trait, which means both parents must carry the recessive gene for this coat coloration in order for them to produce a piebald offspring. Piebaldism is a genetic phenomenon that causes a lack of pigmentation in patches around the body. Because gynandromorphic birds are so rare, most of what is known about their behavior and the effects of this mutation comes from just one bird-a half-male, half-female northern cardinal found in 2008. This mutation is likely present across all bird species, but it is harder to detect in a species where adult males and females look similar, Daniel Hooper, a postdoctoral fellow at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, told National Geographic. ![]() ![]() Gynandromorphism is a very rare condition that is known to occur in insects, snakes, crustaceans, and birds. So, its brain is likely half-male, half-female, too. The cardinal not only appears half-male, half-female, but it also has the genetic makeup for both sexes. Gynandromorphism likely occurs because of an error during egg formation. This genetic anomaly is referred to as bilateral gynandromorphism because it causes a split right down the middle with half of the species’ body resembling a male and the other half a female. ![]() So don’t expect a pin to play a serious structural role. ![]() The holding power of a headless pin is pretty fair but not great. When using a pin nailer, the first rule is to match the tool to the right tasks. ![]() From my perspective, side loading gets the nod. Most nailers load from the side like a brad nailer, but a few load from the bottom. Arrows printed on the sticks indicate which end goes down (photo above). If you look closely, you’ll see that one end of the pin has a chisel tip while the opposite end is flat. Most nailers hold one stick while a few hold two.Īs I mentioned, the pins are headless but they do have a head and a tail end. Like brads, different brands of pins are pretty much interchangeable. Several of the other handy features you’ll find on different pin nailers are shown in the box below. Unless you have a very specific need, it’s probably not worth the extra investment. Increasing the upper end to 1 3 ⁄ 4 " or 2" can tack $100 on to the cost. And each model of nailer will handle a range. Pins are available from 3 ⁄ 8 " to 2" long (photo below). One feature that correlates with price is the upper range of the length of pins a nailer can handle. There are quite a few high-quality guns that fall in the $100 to $200 range. You can buy a bargain model for less than $75 or spend upwards of $300 on a top-of-the-line gun. Today, there are a dozen or more different brands of pin nailers on the market that offer a variety of features. This system takes some getting used to, but it’s not difficult to master. And the spring-loaded trigger lock will automatically reengage when released, preventing firing. With the trigger lock disengaged, a nail will fire each time the primary trigger is depressed. Then the index finger can pull the primary trigger to fire a pin. First, you use the middle finger to disengage the trigger lock or secondary trigger. All newer model pin nailers have a double safety trigger (second photo from the top). This inevitably leaves a noticeable dent, especially in softer woods, along with a good-size brad hole.Ī pin nailer avoids this problem by using a different mechanism to control firing. A retractable tip has to be depressed by pushing it against the surface of the wood before the gun will fire. The firing mechanism on a brad nailer is pressure-activated to prevent accidental firing. Since the goal is a nearly blemish-free surface, a pin nailer is designed to operate a bit differently than a brad nailer. The second advantage is that even when fired into the thinnest, most delicate stock, a 23-gauge pin won’t cause splitting. And if you do choose to fill them, the result will almost certainly be invisible. So filling the holes before or after finishing is often not necessary. First, the headless pins fired by a pin nailer leave a tiny, nearly unnoticeable hole in the surface of the wood (photo at right). Furthermore, unlike a brad, the pins don’t have an enlarged head. The shaft of a 23-gauge pin is about one quarter the overall size of an 18-gauge brad. The significant difference between a pin nailer (also called a micro-pinner) and a brad nailer is the size and shape of the fastener. I had to wait a few years before a tool came along that would fill this need - the 23-gauge, headless pin nailer. The large, highly visible holes left by the 18-gauge brads and their tendency to split thin stock amount to serious drawbacks. I soon discovered that although a brad nailer has a thousand uses around the shop, tacking delicate trim is not one of them. A number of years ago, I purchased a brad nailer thinking that it would be handy for installing small, hard-to-clamp moldings and other project parts. If she can be granted weapon proficiency from an Emblem Ring, she can also promote to a Bow Knight, which grants a more balanced assortment of bonuses as well as improving her mobility and giving her access to a second weapon type. One of Etie's reasons for being Alfred's retainer rather than Céline's is due to the fact that he is one of the few people who earnestly trains with her as the two share similar interests and goals when it comes to physical fitness and physique. She has something of a one-sided rivalry in strength training with her fellow retainer to Alfred, Boucheron, finding envy in the fact that he is naturally muscular without much effort. Even one of her cooking voice lines indicates that she is disappointed that the kitchen utensils are not weighted. She is obsessed with strength training as she has been known to work out even during mundane tasks, such as weighted tea cups when drinking tea with her childhood friend Céline. First, you want your Sound bar positioned in the way you want it and to be plugged in to a power source. The only exception to this would be if your Sound bar has an HDMI in port and your projector has an HDMI out port.įor a more detailed description of how to connect a Sound bar to your projector look below: If both the Sound bar and projector have support for an optical connection, then you should use this option. While Sound bars may have stereo RCA connectors and a stereo audio jack, they may also have an optical option such as TOSLINK. The steps to connecting speakers to a Sound bar are very similar to that of connecting to stereo speakers, just with another connection option. ![]() How to connect your projector to a Sound bar? Once it’s connected, you should be able to select the speaker from the list of available devices and start streaming audio wirelessly. If your projector has wireless audio, you’ll need to connect it to the same wireless network as your speaker. If everything is working properly, you should hear sound coming from the speaker. If your projector has Bluetooth, simply put your speaker into pairing mode and select it from the available devices on your projector. Some projectors now have built-in wireless audio functionality, making it easy to connect your projector to wireless speakers without any extra cables. How to get sound from projector to speakers wirelessly If you want to adjust the projector’s volume, you’ll need to use the remote control.ġ: If you’re having trouble connecting your projector to your Bluetooth speaker, try moving the speaker closer to the projector.Ģ: If you’re using an adapter, make sure that it’s plugged into the projector’s audio out port, not the headphone port.ģ: If you’re still having trouble, try restarting your projector and speaker. Once you’re connected, you should be able to adjust the volume directly on your speaker. Plug the Bluetooth adapter into the projector’s audio-out port to do this. ![]() If your projector doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can still connect it to a Bluetooth speaker using an adapter. You may need to select the projector on your speaker’s Bluetooth device list if it doesn’t. Then, put your Bluetooth speaker into pairing mode, and it should connect automatically. Turn on your projector and press the “ Bluetooth” button on the remote control. If your projector supports Bluetooth out, you can connect it directly to your Bluetooth speaker. How to connect projector to speakers with a 3.5mm port Stereo audio jack: When we say stereo audio jack we’re referring to the 3.5mm TRRS cable that send stereo signals to a set of Soundbar or standalone speakers. With this option you can experience higher quality sound than with a TRRS or RCA connection. TOSLINK/Optical: If you own a projector with a TOSLINK or optical output, you can use that with your sound bar to have surround sound. Do expect to have lower quality audio however, if you connect via Bluetooth. The projector you have has RCA video inputs, with either 3 for component video or 1 for composite video.īluetooth: If the speaker you have is Bluetooth compatible and the projector you own has Bluetooth support, you don’t have to purchase any additional speakers. The first step is to look at your projector and see what kinds of connections it has. ![]() ![]() And the Big Coffin Hunters who burned her at the stake are now in pursuit of Roland and his ka-tet Cuthbert and Alain. Roland’s story span’s many years and many places, and it’s nice to see these earlier events expanded into their own format. It's the return of the best-selling comic book series, inspired by Stephen King's epic The Dark Tower! Gunslinger Roland Deschain has seen the death of his lover Susan Delgado. Ultimately, this is another success, and more impressive given how natural it feels in the universe of the Dark Tower. In fact, I’d even go as far to say it feels better given the story in this omnibus. This isn’t a problem, and the story feels fine with the shorter length. The Long Road Home is also somewhat shorter, running to only 5 issues rather than the 7 of The Gunslinger Born. This isn’t to say a newcomer will miss these things – that’s not the case – but that this is simply another entry in a vast milieu where interconnections are part of its foundation. Not only does it remain faithful to the lore, it expands upon it nicely, adding little nods that those familiar with the series will appreciate. While I praised The Gunslinger Born for the quality of the adaption, and the decision to lead off with it, I think The Long Road Home is perhaps more successful. This time, however, there is no source material to adapt, and instead this is the first of the comic books to deliver an original story. While within the realm of the Grapefruit, Roland must fight for his very sanity in order to return to the world of the living…įirstly, The Long Road Home is scripted and illustrated by the same team behind The Gunslinger Born, so the style and prose is nicely consistent as the story moves forward. With the death of Susan Delgado, Roland is struggling to deal with this loss, and Maerlyn’s Grapefruit only adds to the woes of the ka-tet as Roland enters its depths, leaving his body in a coma while they are chased by a posse from Mejis. The Long Road Home continues events immediately following The Gunslinger Born, with Roland, Cuthbert, and Alain heading back to Gilead with Maerlyn’s Grapefruit, a magical orb that can have very adverse effects on those who become obsessed with it. and Roland is in a coma! Don’t miss the next chapter in the saga of the Gunslinger whose quest for the Dark Tower will shake the foundation of reality itself!Ĭollects Dark Tower: The Long Road Home #1-5. The friends are forced to flee into the desert with the deadly posse in hot pursuit…. Gunslinger Roland Deschain has seen the death of his lover Susan Delgado. It’s the return of the best-selling comic book series, inspired by Stephen King’s epic The Dark Tower! And, of course, there is the focus of this initial series of reviews: the comic book series published by Marvel. While the core books focus specifically on Roland’s quest, there are other stories the fit into this milieu: The Little Sisters of Eluria, a novella set before the events of the first book, The Gunslinger and The Wind Through the Keyhole, a novel within a novel, set prior to the fifth book, Wolves of the Calla. ![]() The Dark Tower is Stephen King’s Magnum Opus, a seven book series that follows gunslinger Roland Deschain on his quest after the Man in Black, and then onwards to the Dark Tower. **This is the second entry in what will be a series of reviews on Stephen King’s Dark Tower universe, starting with the comic book adaptions before moving on to the novels.
![]() I use a Novation SL 61 Mk3, a LaunchPad Pro Mk3 and an Arturia Keystep 37 as my input devices. So if you read all the way through, and have any ideas or suggestions or comments, I’d appreciate it! In 2021 I really have a problem buying a MIDI controller with one of those ugly segmented LED displays that shows only the most basic of info or patch numbers.)Īfter going through every option imaginable I also came to the conclusion that a Modal Argon 8 (37 full size keys, synth engine - wavetable at that which would be new to my hardware setup - and class compliant) as well as some kind of control surface with knobs and sliders like the Studiologic SL Mixface Control Surface or similar.) However, I have my doubts about 37 keys as 49 seems like the absolute minimum to try and play two-handed and I’d still need an audio interface since the Argon 8 doesn’t do USB audio sounds great though.) (Also, in the end, these seem a little overblown for what I need but not out of question.) The Nektar Panorama 49 is also intriguing me (not the least of which because it has a nice screen. MIDI controllers like Artual Keylab 49 Mk II is very nice and Novation SL 49 III but in the end they also have no sound engine, no dedicated synth controls and in particular one of the Keylab’s bigger features is the software which doesn’t have iOS version. (Question is: do I really care about that when the touch screen is right there? Or does having mixer control on the board allow you to have other info on the screen, etc. And for instance the Yamaha MX49 would fit the bill pretty well (class compliant, synth engine, 49 full size keys) … but it has no sliders for integrating with the DAW. ![]() The other issue with MIDI controllers is they have no sound engine inside. Although the same could be said of MOD X, which is also on my radar.) If there were a 49-key version, I think it would already be en route to me. (I understand making a MIDI controller synth friendly is probably an awkward proposition but I think the way the Fantom does it could be a way forward for a future controller keyboard. The problem with most MIDI controllers is the controls are incredibly generic and don’t really make sense from a synthesis workflow. But I’m looking to keep things as streamlined as possible and would much prefer something class compliant, which sadly the ML is not.) Mini keys are off the table or I’d just stick with an interface and my extra Korg Minilogue and an audio interface. (61 FULL SIZE keys is doable but my goal is 49. However, IT IS massively expensive and ultimately not nearly as compact and portable as I’d like. For instance, the Roland Fantom in many ways is the closest example to what I’m looking for: quality construction, great sound engines, nice screen, full set of sliders, knobs and most importantly (and pretty much unique among every option) a set of controls dedicated to the synth engine. Price isn’t really a concern if I’m getting everything I wanted. If anybody has some suggestions for me based on my criteria below, I’d love to hear it. What do you like about it? What are you using and what AREN’T you using on your MIDI controller that maybe you thought was important initially? I’m really curious to hear how Cubasis 3 users are integrating MIDI keyboards or control surfaces into your workflow. I’ve been searching high and low for the perfect MIDI keyboard controller for Cubasis 3 and I must say NOTHING seems to tick all the boxes. |
